Year of Foraging Completion – Get Involved!

Uncategorized

Hello Dear Friends!

Happy First Day of Fall!
Today is Day 349 of the year of foraging. I have just over 2 weeks left.
I am writing to you from my home on this last day of Summer 2026 with a few opportunities to share with you.
You are some of the first to hear about my upcoming activism!
Please email us at info@robingreenfield.org or via our contact form if you are interested in being involved in any of these ways.
I am grateful for each of you.
We are in this together!
In service to Earth, humanity and our plant and animal relatives,
Robin

Foraging Volunteer Weekend at My Home

I am planning to host a Foraging Weekend at my home in Northern Wisconsin. The purpose is two parts: to get support in processing my foraged foods to store the bounty for the months ahead and to share my knowledge at the same time. And of course, have a joyful weekend with fellow foragers and build the community!

I am contemplating Saturday October 10th, Sunday October 11th or potentially both days. Camping will likely be available here. I have created this registration form to share more details and gauge interest.

Drive to Boundary Waters

Over the last year I have hosted 100 events. It’s been a year of deep connection and sharing.

I am seeking to have a week of solitude in the Boundary Waters where I will spend much of my time writing about the year of foraging as I take in some deep solitude and healing time with Earth.

I am hoping to leave Ashland, WI on Sunday September 27th and return on Monday October 5th. I am seeking a ride to Boundary Waters/Ely, MN (I don’t drive). This would be an opportunity to spend some quality time together on the trip while helping me get to this freedom. I’d pay for gas..

I would likely have a canoe to put on the roof. Unless I can find someone in the Boundary Waters area with a canoe that I could use for the week.

On that note, I have a canoe, but if anyone has a lighter one I could borrow for portaging, that’d be ideal.

Note: I could perhaps get a ride from Ashland to Duluth for someone that would like to drive leaving from Duluth.

Fall Homeland Speaking Tour – Driver

From November 4th to 22nd, I will be on a speaking tour for my year of foraging throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and a stop in Chicago.

I am seeking a volunteer teammate to drive for all or part of the tour. All expenses will be covered including gas, accommodations and food.

See the tour details here

Wisconsin to Florida – Driver

From December 1st to 11th, I will be on a speaking tour on my way to Florida including potential stops in Janesville, WI, Bloomington, IN, Lexington, KY, Knoxville or Chattanooga, TN, Atlanta, GA, Tallahassee, FL, Gainesville, FL, Orlando, FL and St. Pete, FL.

I am seeking a volunteer teammate to drive for all or part of the tour. All expenses will be covered including gas, accommodations and food.

Perhaps you or someone you know is already looking to go to Florida and would enjoy this adventure, while covering the cost of traveling there.

Foraging Research and Organization

I am seeking a teammate who would like to assist with ongoing research in relation to foraging.

This would include basic research on different foods that I am foraging.

Along with this I have 2 initiatives I’m contemplating launching and researching

North American Foragers Society/Association. This would be a nationwide foraging society, similar to the North American Mycological Association (NAMA). Research would include making a database of all societies/associations that currently exist and viability for launching this organization.

Foragers Defense Fund. This would be a fund and legal support started to support any person ever ticketed for foraging. Similar to the Dumpster Divers Defense Fund that I started a decade ago.

Canoeing Florida – Research Teammate

This winter I intend to canoe from St. Pete, to Jacksonville, Florida. This is approximately 900 miles over three months. I will be hosting weekly events in cities along the coast inspiring others to become stewards to our land and water.

I am seeking a volunteer teammate to help plan the logistics of this paddle trip. I estimate 20-40 hours could complete the majority of the planning for the tour and I’d like to complete this by the end of October.

Canoeing the Mississippi – Research Teammate

In Fall of 2027 I intend to paddle the Mississippi from source to sea. The focus will be on Rights of Nature and Indigenous Food Sovereignty. I will be hosting events and doing interviews with media along the way.

I am seeking a volunteer teammate to help plan the logistics of this paddle trip. I estimate 40 hours could complete the majority of the planning for the tour and I’d like to complete this by the end of November.

Proofreading My Writing

After 3 years of dedicated volunteer proofreading, our teammate Connie Moore retired from the computer screen at the age of 80. We are seeking a new teammate who would be consistently available for basic proofreading for errors.

What Will I Eat Next?

I have just over 2 weeks left in the year of foraging.
So many people ask, what will I eat when the year is over?
Well, I am going to continue eating 100% foraged food for the first month. (10/9-11/9), but now I am going to eat food that anyone forages. This will include trading, buying, and receiving gifts!
Then I will eat foraged and homegrown foods for ~2 more months. Later I will begin eating from small sustainably focused farms.
I’d like to never go back to the global, industrial food system again, and to truly embody the message that we can feed ourselves as a community, in harmony with Earth!
Do you have foraged food you’d like to share (trade, sell, or gift) to celebrate completion of the year of foraging?
I’ve shared here what I’ll especially be seeking (but am open to all abundance) and how to share it with me if you’d like to.

Seed collection for the 1 Million Community Fruit Trees Initiative

We are seeking support in collecting seeds for the 1 Million Community Fruit Trees Initiative.

These seeds will be planted in our grassroots, collaborative Micro-Nurseries to plant thousands of trees in 2027. Through foraging, there will not be less food to go around, but more, because together we will plant 1 million fruit and nut trees over the next decade.

If you’d be interested in helping to collect seeds, please email JT at cft@robingreenfield.org and she will share details.

Online Foraging School

I invite you to join us in my newly launched online Foraging School and community.

The community is free to join and we have scholarships available for the Foraging School.
