I Love Plastic

I love plastic.

Dare I say these words aloud?

I love plastic, I do. I do.

But how, as an environmentalist,

as a natural living enthusiast,

as someone who has campaigned against

and put countless hours to eradicate it from my life…

How could I love plastic?

For my objective is to love everything,

to strive for universal love.

For I believe love to be the most powerful energy of transformation.

Not hatred, animosity, not dislike nor disdain.

Love is my strategy…

To love is not to condone, it is not to accept there is no other way. Let us not be confused or forget this.

I can work for the side of change—natural fibers, wood, homemade goods,

power in the hands of the people—not the corporations,

local, regenerative energy—the end of fossil fuels.

Yet, I can love the plastic.

I can love the oil.

I can love my fellow human that works at the corporations I stand against.

I can feel grateful for what I’ve been able to do with plastic in my life,

but not be deluded that I—and humanity—couldn’t exist with just as much meaning and purpose in a world without plastic.

I have spent many hours in resistance to the ever pervading plastic that comes into my life and I have suffered so.

Let today be a turning point—resistance will continue—but resistance with love.
