Downsizing to What Fits on My Bicycle: Community Gathering in Los Angeles

Dear Friends!
Join me in Los Angeles for a gathering of community connection and inspiration to live more simply, sustainably and in service to Earth.

I welcome you to join me for what will be a meaningful step forward in my pursuit of truth and integrity. I will come to this gathering with every possession I own and I intend to leave with only the items that fit comfortably on my bicycle. I plan to lay out my possessions on two blankets – one with what I will keep and the other with what I will give away. I will joyfully pass these items on to those of you who find value and meaning in them, while making space in my life for what matters most to me.

I will share a talk on how I embrace simple and sustainable living as a means of living in harmony with Earth, humanity and the plants and animals we share this home with. At the same time, how simple and sustainable living is part of my strategic life design of noncooperation with the systems of destruction and oppression. For those wishing, I will share my suggestions of how you can adopt simple and sustainable living practices into your life, starting with very accessible and manageable changes. Lastly, I will share an opportunity for you to ask any questions that are alive for you.

I will be making a pot of Manoomin (wild rice) that I harvested with love and care from my homeland in the fall of 2023. Manoomin is a plant that has become quite sacred to me and I find deep meaning in sharing this food with my Dear Friends. I give gratitude to the Anishinaabe people who have been stewards of this plant relative for hundreds of years. Without their dedication, Manoomin would quite likely no longer be in abundance anywhere on Turtle Island.

I am looking forward to sharing a hug with each of you who joins us. There will be ample opportunity for connecting with others and creating friendships that can help you on this path of reconnecting with Earth, your community, our plant and animal relatives, and yourself.

Lastly, I’d like to welcome this gathering for a potluck meal. I humbly request that all who desire to share food or eat, to please bring reusable dishes and utensils and to leave any disposable items elsewhere. I encourage you to embrace this opportunity to source local foods for the dish you bring, even if that means simply bringing a bag of oranges or a salad of greens. Let us practice these forms of honoring Earth together. (See my Zero Waste Guide for support.)
