Giiwedin is relearning the Anishinaabe language and is part of a growing and powerful movement of Indigenous  language revitalization taking place around the world. It is his people’s language that has been spoken around the Great Lakes area for thousands of years. Giiweden shares that learning Ojibwemowin is important in connecting him with his people’s culture. Using the language as a medium to communicate with relatives, with family, and also to be able to understand what’s going on in ceremony and prayer is very important to him. Ojibwemowin is one of the most complicated and difficult languages to learn. Not a lot of Anishinaabe people speak the language because of colonization. Learning the language is part of healing for him.
