My Next Five Years
During my week of silence in the Olympic National Forest, I wrote out what I’d like to do over my next five years (2024-2029). I have shared the outline here.
Take my first long walk
I plan to embark on my first long walk along the Pacific Coast from Canada to Los Angeles in the summer of 2024.
Come into full truth and transparency
I aim to come into full truth and transparency in my life. I aim to hold no secrets and tell no lies, practicing 100% truth and transparency for an extended period. I may even take a lifetime vow, making my mind a Creative Commons space where I share my thoughts freely with others.
Give away everything I own and enter into an experiment of non-ownership.
Silence for an extended period of time
I have experienced 10 days of silence in the past. I am aspiring to take this practice further by extending it to an entire month.
Forage 100% of my food for a year
Having foraged 100% of my food for one month, I aspire to take this experiment further by foraging all of my food for an entire year.
Make my complete clothing wardrobe from start to finish through growing and foraging, processing and creating the clothes.
In 2024, I achieved the goal of 100% homemade clothing made from natural fibers and naturally dyed materials.
Take vows as a monk of the Earth.
Vipassana
Do a 10-day Vipassana each year, with the goal of doing a month-long Vipassana.
Deep solitude immersions with Earth
My longest solitude experience is one week. I aim to dedicate one week each year to solitude, with a goal of 30 days of solitude in deep nature.
Practice non-sexuality
I plan to practice non-sexuality until August 28, 2026, with the possibility of extending it for another two years or even making it a lifetime vow.
Spend extended periods of time offline
I also aim to spend extended periods offline, liberating myself from emails, texting, social media, and my dependence on the internet. This includes the goal of living without owning a computer, phone, or electronic communication devices for two years.
I have pondered the idea of logging off social media forever, perhaps engaging with it in a new way that allows me to share messages effectively while remaining offline.
